" Balinese sambal " was served with fish, and I liked it very much. It was with finely chopped onions, chili etc in a kind of vinegar. Does anyone know the recipe? X.

how's life with miso? that's the recipe, chopped/finely sliced bawang merah with chopped/finely sliced cabe, just change the vinegar into oliveoil or cheaper oil.

This is called "Sambal matah"- it consists of small chopped small onions, chilis, chopped lemongrass, oil and a little bit of "Terasi" (shrimp paste, roasted over a flame).

While we are doing recipe exchanges - does anyone know a good recipe for the rice wine called Brem? Gabi the sambal sounds great - next time at yours or bring some with you please?

Glad there is no time-limit to say "thank you". So... thanks guys, your posts have been very helpful (because my copycat sambal was so-so) Hi Gilbert! Life is getting better and better, life is good. I am only a few islands away, but thinking of Bali very often. Hope everything is OK in Casa De Jong, and be careful on that bike of yours! ;-)
